The 14 Edinburgh communities with the fewest Covid-19 cases across seven day period

Nicola Sturgeon this week pointed to some slightly concerning trends so far as Edinburgh's Covid-19 figures go.

The First Minister revealed that over a seven day period the number of cases per 100,000 has gone up by 14 per cent, while test positivity has increased by 0.5 per cent. Lothian also has the second highest case numbers behind Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

All of these factors led to Edinburgh's expected shift to protection level two scrapped, with a longer stay in level three confirmed during Tuesday's review.

While this might suggest limited progress city-wide, there are a number of neighbourhoods across the Scottish capital where case numbers haven't been rising.

According to Public Health Scotland figures there are 14 Edinburgh communities where the seven day positive rate per 100,000 is less than 15 cases.

In Ratho, Ingliston and Gogar there have been zero cases in the seven days to 8 December. The same can also be said of Barnton, Cammo and Cramond South, East Craigs North, Currie East, Liberton West and Braid Hills, Broughton North and Powderhall and New Town East and Gayfield.

A full list of the 14 areas with fewest cases across the city are as follows – and of these only Canongate, Southside and Dumbiedykes reported any cases at all (between 1 and 4).

  • Balgreen and Roseburn
  • Barnton, Cammo and Cramond South
  • Broughton North and Powderhall
  • Canongate, Southside and Dumbiedykes
  • Currie East
  • East Craigs North
  • Gorgie East
  • Liberton West and Braid Hills
  • Merchiston and Greenhill
  • Morningside and Craighouse
  • Mortonhall and Anwickhill
  • New Town East and Gayfield
  • Ratho, Ingliston and Gogar
  • Restalrig (Loganlea) and Craigentinny

On the flip-side, a number of areas across the city reported a rate of more than 100 Covid-19 cases per 100,000 of population.

These included Currie West, Gilmerton South and the Murrays, Craigmillar, Jewel, Brunstane and Newcraighall, Niddrie, Portobello and North Leith and Newhaven.
