The 12-year-old Miss Junior Greater Manchester aiming to become the next top supermodel

The term supermodel became most prominent in the 1990s with Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, Claudia Schiffer, Kate Moss, Linda Evangelista and Naomi Campbell fronting magazine covers around the world.

The likes of Bella and Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Kaia Gerber are the current queens of the runway, and a schoolgirl from Salford is hoping to emulate their success one day.

Twelve-year-old Georgia-Deon Hamnett, from Irlam, has got the catwalk in her sights after being crowned Junior Miss Greater Manchester.

She was recently crowned Junior Miss Greater Manchester (Junior Miss British Isles)

Georgia, a pupil at St Patrick's High School, entered the modelling contest run by Junior Miss British Isles after being snapped up by Fusion Management modelling agency in London last summer.

Her proud mum Naomi Ewen told us: "You never know, she could be the next supermodel.

"I sent some pictures in of her and she won.

"She's very chilled and so quiet and I think I got more excited than her when she won.

"She won a photo shoot and will be in the grand final in April.

"I didn't tell her that I'd entered her in the competition.

"I can't even get a picture on my phone of her."

She added: "She's a really shy kid but put her in front of the camera and she's brilliant."

Naomi says her daughter, who is 5ft5, would be suited to the catwalk and high-fashion modelling because of her height.

"She's always been photogenic," explained Naomi, a 37-year-old dog groomer who also has a three-year-old son Elliott.

"But last year she went from being chubby to being a tall, gangly kid.

"All my clients say they can't believe it was the same kid.

"We're a tall family.

"I'm 5ft10 and no-one is short in our family."

The aspiring model's idol is 16-year-old American social media star Charli D’Amelio, who has 105M followers on the video sharing app TikTok.

Naomi says about Georgia-Deon: "She's a little tomboy who likes wearing leggings and a hoodie.

"But recently she's realising her potential and becoming more aware."

Georgia-Deon is now in the running to win the title Junior Miss British Isles with the final to be held in April.

In her modelling profile she says: "Hi, my name is Georgia-Deon Hamnett. I’m 12 years old and ready to start a career in modelling.

"After a photo shoot I had with my mum I realised this is something I would love to pursue as I loved every second. I’m focused, hard working and determined."
