While new norms around shopping have been adapted by most of us the recent unprecedented surge means people are now taking more precautions than ever.
Here's a reminder of some key rules to follow when doing your shopping.

Wear a mask
This is the most obvious one but you are required to wear a mask in any indoor setting and that includes in shops as well as shopping centres.
Clean trolleys and baskets before and after use
Most shops will provide facilities to clean and sanitise trolleys and baskets between use
Plan your shopping
Before you go shopping, make a list of what you need to buy so you can do your shopping more quickly.
Don't go shopping if you have Covid symptoms
If you have Covid symptoms, you should not go out.
You should self-isolate and other people you live with should restrict their movements. Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.

Use your own shopping bags
You are advised to take your own shopping bags and, if possible, put items directly into the bags and avoid contact with baskets or trolleys.
Keep your distance
Keep a safe physical distance of 2 metres from all other people – this includes going in and out of the store.
Don't hang around
Avoid staying in the shop for any longer than necessary by stopping to chat with staff and fellow shoppers
Shop alone if you can
Avoid shopping in groups and, where possible, you should avoid taking your children to the shop.
Use card not cash
Make a contactless payments (if possible). The contactless payment limit has increased from €30 to €50.
Keep sanitising your hands
Sanitise your hands when leaving the shop (if possible) and again when you get into your car (if travelling by car).

Try to plan to go to the shops off peak times and also be aware that some stores may have designated shopping times for more elderly shoppers.
