Don’t be shocked if you pull up to your local movie theater on a crisp Saturday afternoon this fall and see a tailgate party popping off.
I’m sorry, but that matinee flick you planned on watching might have to be put on hold. It’s college football season. And, thanks to a new agreement between ESPN and the Theater Sports Network, some select games are going to be coming to movie theaters this fall.
ESPN will be broadcasting 75 ACC games in movie theaters this fall, the Associated Press reports. That package will also include the New Year’s Six bowl games and the College Football Playoff national championship game.
Seeing sports in the movie theater is going to be a wild time. Your local theater is basically going to turn into the busiest college football bar of the town.
That could be a pretty fun experience, though. Imagine watching your favorite team score a touchdown on the big screen. That’s got to be awesome.
It got me thinking, though, about all of the things we’ve missed out on. What other sports moments would be awesome to watch in a movie theater? You’re probably wondering the same thing right now.
If so, don’t worry. Here’s a quick list of a few.
1
The Super Bowl

Come on, now. This is the easy one, isn’t it? The Super Bowl is the biggest sporting event in the world.
I actually don’t even think you could do this simply because there might not be enough movie theaters to get it done. Everyone is going to line up to watch this game on the biggest screen possible. Imagine seeing it in IMAX. That would be amazing.
2
The NBA Finals

Can you imagine watching Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals on the big screen? Seeing LeBron James chase down Andre Iguodala’s shot with Dolby Atmos sound would be incredible. You’d literally here it bounce off of the backboard.
I’d pay so much money for this.
3
NCAA Tournament Championship Game

Every single year this game gives us something to be excited about on, both, the men’s and the women’s side. Watching the entire tournament at the theater would be a treat, but the final game would be outstanding.
4
College Football Playoff Final

This one is actually happening, but it hasn’t happened yet. So, yes, it still counts for this list. And I, for one, cannot wait to go to the theater and experience this myself.
5
The World Series

Watching the closeout game of the World Series, in particular, would be absolutely incredible on an IMAX screen. The detail would be incredible.
6
Stanley Cup Finals

Watching the NHL Finals is already riveting enough. Playoff hockey might be the most exciting action out of any sport considering how long it keeps you on edge. Put that on the big screen and we’re absolutely cooking with gas.
7
The Masters

Golf on the big screen is interesting. Yes, the game takes forever. Personally, some of my best naps have come while watching golf.
But, also, can you imagine seeing that course in so much detail on a movie screen? It’d be stunning. I’d give it a shot, for sure.
8
Kentucky Derby

The Kentucky Derby is the inverse of golf, but I think the same thing applies here. The race would only be a few minutes, obviously. So, unless pre-race analysis is included, you might not be getting the most bang for your buck here.
But, man. The detail of the track along with the excitement of the race, combined, certainly feels like it might make this worth your while. Again, I’d give it a shot.
9
Olympic Swimming

Swim meets are already incredibly exciting. Plus, considering how many different races there are, there’s a chance you could be at the theater all day. This would be an absolute blast.
10
Olympic 100m

The same can be said about track events. But, specifically, the 100 meter race finals would be perfect theater. There’s always so much drama leading up to the race. You have the fiercest competitors out there, too. By the end, you’re always out of your seat. It’d be perfect for the big screen.
11
World Cup Finals

The World Cup is the biggest tournament in the world. It’s probably bigger than the Super Bowl in a lot of places. Theaters would be packed for World Cup parties.
12
Boxing title matches

I’m just imagining watching the clinic that Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford put on against Errol Spence earlier this summer on an IMAX screen and getting goosebumps. Somebody, please make this happen.
