The 11-year Arsenal record that Gabriel Martinelli matched with goal vs Chelsea

Gabriel Martinelli has gone from strength to strength since his summer arrival at the Emirates Stadium.

The 18-year-old signed from Brazilian side Ituano during the close of season transfer window and has quickly settled to life in England, making 21 first-team appearances in all competitions for Arsenal so far this season.

The forward started his first game under Mikel Arteta in the 1-1 draw against Sheffield United, where he stepped up in the absence of club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who is serving a three-game suspension.

Martinelli put the Gunners ahead against the Blades with his second Premier League goal, his first coming in a 3-1 win over West Ham in December.

The Brazilian was again named in the starting 11 for the game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. And he repaid Arteta's faith again by netting the Gunners' first equaliser in a 2-2 draw, after running almost the entire length of the pitch when breaking from a Blues' set-piece.

That goal was Martinelli's 10th of the season in all competitions.

It's a number that equals a record from the 1998/99 season.

The youngster has become the first teenager to score 10 goals in a single season for Arsenal since Nicolas Anelka over 20 years ago, and there is still over four months of the season remaining.

Anelka went onto score 126 goals in 364 Premier League appearances, with 17 of them coming in an Arsenal shirt.
