The 10 Celtic players who face contract dilemma due to coronavirus suspension

Celtic have a long list of players with expiring contracts in the summer that could be heavily impacted by the suspension of Scottish football.

Deals run out on May 31 or June 30 and if the league is extended into July due to the outbreak of coronavirus, this is another piece of the puzzle that will need to be addressed.

football.london reports that loan players may be given an option to sign extension waivers, while pre-contract agreements and transfers already agreed are still expected to be completed on July 1.

But players who are set to be free agents have no legal obligation to stay with the club when their deals expire.

Former Liverpool and Spurs director of football Damien Comolli gave his expert opinion on the situation.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: "Legally, players' contracts end on June 30. So if the season has to go beyond June 30, we will have to do some special contracts or shorten contracts of a month or two months, which has never been before.

"There is no provision in the UEFA Players' Statute Regulation to do this. That is another aspect."

And the Premiership champions have a total of 10 players this could impact.

Mohamed Elyounoussi's loan deal with Southampton is set to run out at the end of May and Fraser Forster's deal ends a month later, although Celtic are reportedly keen to snap up the Saints duo on a permanent deal.

Neil Lennon has an option to buy Mortiz Bauer who is on loan from Stoke, while Daniel Arzani's injury-riddled time at Parkehad is set to come to and end as he returns to Manchester City.

Craig Gordon is surplus to requirements and is desperate to find first team football in the summer with Hearts eyeing up the veteran keeper.

Jonny Hayes has yet to be offered an extension and could leave the club on a free.

Academy graduate Calvin Miller has struggled to force his way into Lennon's plans and looks to be heading for the exit door.

And what about the players who are currently out on loan?

Eboue Kouassi is in Belgium with Genk, while Anthony Ralston is on loan at St Johnstone and youngster Jonathan Afolabi signed a short term deal with Dunfermline.
