The 10 best amusement parks in the UK revealed

Scream if you want to go faster ( istock )

Amusement parks have long been a family favourite and with the summer holidays in full swing, it's a busy time of year for those seeking an adrenalin hit.

If you're undecided in your choice of park, look no further than the TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice awards, which reveal the UK's best amusement parks.

Award winners were determined using an algorithm that calculated the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for amusement parks around the world over a 12-month period.

Paultons Park, home of Peppa Pig World, has been named the UK’s number one amusement park in this year’s awards.

The Hampshire amusement park, which boasts over 70 rides and attractions, has come top for the third consecutive year.

Set in 140 acres of parkland on the edge of the New Forest National Park, the family theme park was also ranked 9th in Europe and 24th in the world.

Universal’s Islands of Adventure in Orlando, US, was named the favourite amusement park in the world, for the fourth year in a row. The popular park includes attractions such as the Harry Potter and the Forbidden World and the Jurassic Park Adventure River ride.

Closer to home, Blackpool Pleasure Beach came in second place. The pioneering attraction launched the world’s tallest rollercoaster in the world in 1994, The Big One, and currently retains the title of the tallest rollercoaster in the UK. The park also includes ICON, the UK’s first double launch rollercoaster and Nickelodeon Land.

Alton Towers Theme Park and Resort came in third place. England’s largest theme park includes a combination of family fun and adrenalin pumping rides set in over 500 acres of parkland.

“These fantastic UK amusement parks are the ideal fun-filled day out with the kids during the summer holidays.

"It’s worth remembering though that the fun takes a whole lot longer to start when you’re stuck waiting in queues, particularly during this busy time of year, so be smart, think ahead and make sure you, book your passes in advance so you can spend more time playing and less time waiting,” said Hayley Coleman, a TripAdvisor spokesperson.”
