Sometimes, one thing that can ruin your appetite is opening your fast-food meal only to discover it’s not what you expected.
This year, the American Customer Satisfaction Index reported that customer satisfaction has steadied at 79 (on a 100-point scale). But when serving the public, disappointed customers are inevitable. Across the internet, unhappy customers have documented their experiences, including at Chick-fil-A and Subway. For one Jimmy John’s customer, her $10 sandwich left her shocked and demanding a refund.
Behind the camera of the clip is TikTok creator Dylan Anthony (@dylananthony1026), who films his wife, Audrey (@audrey_liz), sitting in the passenger seat with a tiny wrapped Jimmy John’s sandwich in her hand.
“I can’t even believe this!” Audrey laughs. “Ten-dollar Jimmy John’s sandwich,” Dylan adds. Once she opens it, she is in utter disbelief at the skinny, breadstick-shaped sub. “No way,” his wife says, pulling the bread apart to reveal a measly amount of roast beef, salami, cheese, peppers, and tomatoes inside. “Go get me my money back. There’s no way, Dylan.”
While Audrey picks apart the contents, the content creator proposes an alternative. “Just call in their corporate line. They’re not gonna give you your money back,” he suggests. However, she decides against it. “I’m appalled. Fine, I’ll eat it but I’m very upset about this,” she says.
What did viewers think?
The video amassed 2.6 million views. Those who sided with the couple made joking comparisons about the sandwich.
“Looks like an olive garden breadstick with meat inside,” one viewer with over 52,000 likes commented.
“Costco’s $1.50 hotdog is bigger,” another stated.
“[It looks] like the size of a pickle, not a sandwich,” a third said.
Meanwhile, others lacked sympathy, refusing to believe Anthony paid $10 for the sub.
“Yeah i work for jimmy johns. Thats what happens when you add a bunch of meats to a little john, sweetheart. Its all an uncharge for meat to be added and it gets wild fast,” one alleged Jimmy John’s employee remarked.
“I’d be questioning the person who ordered it for you. They definitely got you a Little John and pocketed the change. That’s no $10 sub,” a second echoed.
But Dylan insisted this was how much they paid. “LMAO we ordered a little John. This is it. $9.50,” he replied in the comments section.
$10 for a Jimmy John’s sandwich?
In 2019, the restaurant launched these six-and-a-half-inch subs for $3—the ‘mini’ versions of the regular counterparts —more snack sandwiches than meals. Since then, average prices have risen due to inflation and higher labor costs. To prove he paid the amount, Dylan posted a screenshot in another video of his bank statement showing a $9.50 charge from a Jimmy John’s in Leominster, Massachusetts. According to the location’s website, a Little John costs $7.11 before taxes. Because the viewers noticed the extra meat in Audrey’s sandwich, the chain does charge extra for certain toppings, though the couple didn’t confirm whether they added them.
