Thatchers Cider employee admits fraud after falsifying orders

A Thatchers cider worker has admitted fraud after misappropriating stock.

Colin King, 60, of Walliscote Road in Weston-super-Mare, was employed as mail order co-ordinator for the business based in Sandford, North Somerset.

He was to face trial at the end of this month.

But in a brief hearing at Bristol Crown Court he pleaded guilty to fraud between September 1, 2017, and December 21, 2017, by falsifying or altering orders.

Ian Fenny, prosecuting, told the court the quantity of cider taken from the firm was being established.

He said that total would possibly be in dispute between the prosecution and defence.

Judge Julian Lambert adjourned sentence, pending a probation report, until August 22.

The judge released King on bail.

He told him: "As to how much the loss is, the prosecution must put that in writing.

"The judge will then have to work out of there is a difference (from the defence) and it is necessary to have a hearing."

Judge Lambert made no promises to King, who has no similar previous offences.

King declined to comment as he left court.
