‘That was done to embarrass me’; Trent Williams speaks on Redskins attempt to trade him

There are a arguably a lot of things that the Washington Redskins have mishandled on the Trent Williams front, but one of the more egregious acts came within the past week, when the team frantically tried to trade the seven-time Pro Bowler just before the 4 p.m. deadline on Tuesday afternoon.

After ending his holdout with the team and talking to the media for the first time in months, Williams opened up about his grievances with the organization, and said that watching the team try to trade him at the last minute, after ignoring his previous requisitions to be sent elsewhere, was done to embarrass him.

“I mean, when you give them 48 hours to strike a deal it probably isn’t going to happen,” Williams said, via ESPN’s John Keim. “I just felt like that was done to embarrass me, try to make it feel like, ‘Ain’t nobody want you; you’re not good enough for us to trade for.’ I felt like that was the play more so than to get me moved.”

The Redskins were consistent for the first eight weeks of the season, saying that they had no intention to trade the 31-year-old, despite his refusal to show up to the team facilities and be a part of the team. Then, just a couple of days before the deadline, they changed their tune and said they would trade him, but only for a very high price tag. As expected, nothing came to fruition.

Now, with the deadline passed, the Redskins won’t be able to trade Williams again until the offseason, when he likely will lose some of his trade value as one year will be taken off of his contract. That is of course, if he still wishes to be traded, which seems more and more likely by the day.
