That time Emmanuel Sanders almost became a Patriot

The Denver Broncos have agreed to trade for Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco once the new league year starts next month. With the former Super Bowl MVP’s arrival, Denver’s passing attack has the potential to be formidable.

Whether or not Emmanuel Sanders is a part of that remains to be seen. The wide receiver had this to say last night on Twitter when it was proposed the Broncos should approach him about taking a pay cut.

It appears as though the Broncos may very well be committed to bringing him back, but, it’s the offseason, so speculating about possible new locations for Sanders (should he be released) is a fun way to pass the time.

One location that seems all too obvious for Sanders would be the New England Patriots because that’s where everyone goes to prove they’ve still got plenty left in the tank. (He’ll be 32 once the season begins in the fall.)

While people may roll their eyes at thinking about Sanders on the Patriots, it should be pointed out that Sanders nearly was a Patriot years ago when he signed a restricted free agent offer sheet with the team in the 2013 offseason. The Steelers ended up matching the offer, so Sanders stayed in Pittsburgh, while the Pats re-signed Julian Edelman and signed some guy named Danny Amendola.

Considering Sanders went on to win a Super Bowl in Denver while Edelman and Amendola both won multiple Super Bowls with the Patriots, I’d say it worked out for everyone.

Still, it’s fun to imagine what that Pats offense would’ve looked like with Sanders and Brady.
