'That team felt responsible' - Jermaine Jenas on Sir Bobby Robson's sacking at Newcastle

Jermaine Jenas has revealed how Newcastle United's players felt responsible for the departure of Sir Bobby Robson.

The iconic manager was sacked by the club’s hierarchy four games into the 2004/05 Premier League season, bringing an end to his five-year tenure at the club.

At the time, there were reports of in-fighting and player unrest, and Jenas believes the players were to blame for Robson’s departure.

“I was here for Sir Bobby Robson and he was like a dad to me," Jenas told BT Sport.

“He brought me to this football club and actually generally cared about me as a human being.

“As an 18-year-old he allowed me to go home and see family, he understood me as a person.

“And when he left here, which was wrong by the way, a lot of us in that team felt responsible.

“I bumped into Bobby on numerous occasions and we spoke. Our relationship was different it was like any other relationship I had with any manager.”
