'That’s not very honest' - Kylian Mbappe transfer theory may give Liverpool hope

Kylian Mbappe has been accused of hiding the truth about his future by former Paris Saint-Germain winger Jerome Rothen.

The World Cup winner's future with the Ligue 1 giants remains in doubt ahead of his contract expiring in 2022, with Liverpool and Real Madrid two of the sides most heavily linked with his services.

Previous reports had suggested the striker was keen to play for Zinedine Zidane at the Bernabeu, though the La Liga outfit's current financial troubles would make any deal increasingly-difficult.

PSG continue to insist that the 22-year-old won't be leaving the club this summer and are in talks with Mbappe regarding a new contract.

But Rothen accused the forward of not being honest about his future, suggesting if he had any intention of staying with PSG he would have already signed a new deal but has now been forced to reconsider his options having previously hoped to join Real Madrid.

"It is complicated. We are not in his head and he has personal goals and desires," Rothen told ParisFans, quoted by TEAMtalk. "Is he convinced to stay at PSG? I don’t think so, since otherwise his contract would have already been extended.

"I think he felt that his future lay elsewhere. It is not a criticism, he has the right to think like that. I have the impression that he sometimes hides certain truths.

"It feels like he’s not being direct and I don’t like that very much because it means that you are an opportunist, that your goal was to go to Real Madrid, but given the financial context of Madrid, you can’t anymore. That’s not very honest."
