‘That’s no fun’: Spitting Image creator Roger Law says show won’t just mock right-wing figures

Spitting Image creator Roger Law has insisted that the show will parody both right and left-wing figures when it returns in October.

36 years after it was first broadcast in 1984, the satirical comedy show is released on Saturday (3 October) with new episodes coming to streaming service BritBox.

While a number of the notable figures being lampooned in puppet form have been revealed, they have predominantly been Conservative politicians, such as Boris Johnson, Dominic Cummings and Michael Gove.

However, appearing on The Andrew Marr Show, Law, who worked on the original series, said that the new season of Spitting Image would be taking aim at figures on both sides of the political spectrum.

Explaining that there was “no fun” in only targeting the right, Law said: “There’s lots of ammunition to throw at the other side as well. You go for them all.”

He continued: “When we started Spitting Image, everything was in turmoil. There were riots in the streets… and of course you had Thatcher.

“You start looking on Thatcher with nostalgia because at least you knew what she was about and what she was going to do, if you thought about it. Boris and the boys, you’ve got no idea, and the ideology is absolutely nuts.”

Outside of UK politics, figures such as Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and Bernie Sanders will be parodied, as well as Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, RuPaul, Adele, Elon Musk, Beyonce, and James Corden.
