'That’s extraordinary' - Gary Lineker hails Liverpool player after Crystal Palace win

Gary Lineker has identified one Liverpool player who had an “extraordinary” performance against Crystal Palace.

The Reds ran out 3-0 winners in their Premier League clash at Anfield on Saturday, to move up to the top of the table.

Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Naby Keita scored the goals that saw Jurgen Klopp’s side maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign.

In the build-up to the game, there was plenty of talk about Klopp’s team selection.

The Liverpool boss made six changes from the side that beat AC Milan in midweek, although one was enforced.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was forced to miss out last minute due to illness, and in his place stepped James Milner.

Despite being up against Wilfried Zaha, Milner managed to stop the forward from inflicting damage on Liverpool’s defence, as well as avoiding a booking.

Lineker, starting a discussion about Milner on Match of the Day, said: “This guy just defies Father Time, doesn’t he?”

Fellow pundit Jermaine Jenas also remarked on Milner’s performance and fitness levels following the 35-year-old’s impressive display.

“It’s remarkable,” said Jenas. “[A] testament to the way he looks after himself that he can just come in these types of games and perform the way he does.”

Match of the Day displayed a graphic which showed Milner leading the way in touches, passes, passes in the opposition half, tackles, crosses, distance covered and sprints across both Liverpool and Palace.

After seeing the graphic, Lineker said: “That’s extraordinary.

“He just keeps going, [a] remarkable professional.”
