'That's an ingredient that breeds confidence' - Neal Ardley praises key Notts County asset

Neal Ardley says  Notts County’s firepower is “an ingredient that breeds confidence” and feels that it gives his team belief they can overcome setbacks.

The Magpies rattled in four goals without reply on Tuesday night as they thumped Woking at Kingfield in what was their biggest victory of the season.

Wes Thomas and Enzio Boldewijn both scored twice to take their tallies for the season to five and six respectively with striker Kristian Dennis leading the way with seven.

It has helped propel Notts to an incredible record in which they have lost just three of their last 16 games, form they are looking to improve when they play Hartlepool this weekend.

Asked whether the best defensive record in the league or the goals scored had pleased him most, Ardley joked: “I’ve got to be careful in what I say otherwise one group will get upset.

“But I think if you have goals in the team it’s a good sign.

“Every now and again you will get breached at the back like Chesterfield.

“But if you look at that game, the defensive performance was outstanding, but we lost to one attempt at goal.

“It was the same against Wrexham. They scored with their only shot on goal and we drew 1-1.

“But knowing you’ve got goals in the team, if you do go 1-0 down, you go ‘okay, we’ve got goals in the team’.

“That is an ingredient that breeds confidence.”
