‘That’s a wrap' - Irish actress Charlene McKenna says goodbye to Peaky Blinders ‘family’ for last time

‘That’s a wrap' - Irish actress Charlene McKenna says goodbye to Peaky Blinders ‘family’ for the final time.

The Monaghan woman starred as IRA boss Captain Swing in the fifth season of the show, appearing on screen for just a couple of minutes.

Her character is set to make a return in the highly anticipated sixth and final season of the show.

But Charlene revealed she hung up her hat for the last time today, as her filming on the new series has wrapped.

“#CaptainSwing has hung up her hat for the last time.

“To all the cast and crew THANK YOU so very much for everything.

In particular @antobyrne75 for having me be a part of the Peaky family.

“I’ve loved every second!!,” she added.

Posting an image of her character’s hat and gloves to Instagram, the Raw star said: “And that’s a wrap.

It comes after the Pure Mule actress paid tribute to late star Helen McCrory, who passed away at the age of 52, last month.

Taking to Instagram, McKenna, who was currently filming for Peaky Blinders, wrote: “I can’t tell you how much I looked up to #helenmccrory as an actress. I FEASTED on her performances and I know her legacy lives ON.

“I can’t say I knew her as a friend but my sadness at her passing is no less valid.

"We’ve lost a giant. Today was a very strange and sad day on set. And my heart goes out to everyone.”

Charlene, who married her love Adam Rothenberg in an intimate wedding in Ireland earlier this year, has been busy filming the new season since.

Announcing her wedding news back in February, she said the pair hadn’t seen each other since their January wedding, due to their conflicting work schedules.

"He's on Ozark filming so he's in Atlanta and I'm on Peaky [Blinders],” she said.

Meanwhile, the actress hinted that her stint on Peaky Blinders, starring Irish actor Cillian Murphy, may not be over just yet, with hopes for a movie to follow the season finale.

Speaking on Today FM’s Dermot and Dave show, she previously revealed:

“I think their intent [is to] go head.

“When and who and what, I don’t know, but I know Steve Knight, the creator, wants to make it.

‘I think Cillian is keen, I think the team are keen to do it in lieu of a season seven to wrap it up.

“I think Steve[Knight, creator] wanted it very much, talking about the fanbase of the show.

“There is such a fan base for the show, the Peaky fan family.

“He said, “Wouldn’t it be so nice when this is all over to be able to watch it all together in a cinema. It’s an absolute dream for it so it’s a nice dream and hopefully it’ll be a reality.”

Peaky Blinders bosses confirmed that season six will be the hit drama's last as filming finally kicked off in January.

However, teasing a possible movie, writer Steven Knight added: “While the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another form.

“Thank you to all the Peaky fans.”

Caryn Mandabach, executive producer, also commented: “Series six marks the end of an epic story that has entranced audiences since it first started in 2013, but the world of Peaky Blinders will most definitely live on.”
