‘That must be really sad for him’: King Charles might see Prince Harry for one emotional reason

It’s looking more and more likely that we’ll see a potential royal reunion this month as Prince Harry is set to make an appearance in London on September 8 for the WellChild awards. During the prince’s time in the U.K. King Charles would apparently like to see his son for an emotional reason.

The date of Harry’s visit falls on the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death which usually sees Charles travel to Balmoral Castle in Scotland, the place where she passed. While the King won’t be in London at the same time as Harry, there’s still a good chance the pair will meet while the Duke of Sussex is in the U.K.

Ingrid Seward, a royal expert who has been writing about the monarchy for decades, told Newsweek that she believes a meeting between father and son would likely go ahead even if it requires the prince travelling up to Scotland to meet him. According to her, the meeting would benefit both of them, but Charles in particular.

King Charles would like to see Harry

Seward claims that “Charles would probably like to see [Harry]” mainly because he wants to be able to see his grandchildren. This emotional reason is one of the king’s biggest motivations for making the effort with his son.

“Because Charles isn’t seeing his grandchildren that must be really sad for him and if a meeting can be arranged without too much drama, he will see Harry.”

Of course, the meeting won’t just be for Charles’ benefit, the catch-up would do Harry some god too, “My opinion is that Harry desperately needs the stardust of meeting his father,” Seward claims, “He needs the glow of being the king’s son to shine on him.”

While there’s almost a 0% that Harry bring Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4, with him to the U.K. (on account of the security concerns,) the meeting would still be a way for Charles to get caught up on what’s going on in his grandchildren’s lives. Who knows, if the negotiations between Harry and the rest of the royals go well maybe Charles could even get a chance to see Archie and Lilibet.

Charles has taken a somewhat softer approach to dealing with Harry, likely on account of his desire to form a bond with his grandchildren and see the royal family united once more, however, not everyone feels the same. Prince William has been holding out on accepting his brother back into the royal fold. Even if this reunion between Charles and Harry does take place, there are still plenty of others that aren’t quite ready to forgive him just yet.
