Lewis Capaldi Chewbacca TRNSMT mask raises over £7,000 for charity at auction

Lewis Capaldi's infamous Chewbacca mask he wore onto the stage at TRNSMT has sold for just over £7,400 at auction - and the proceeds are going to charity.

The Bathgate singer wore the headgear in a bid to wind up ageing rocker Noel Gallagher after he branded Lewis “f****** Chewbacca” ahead of the Glasgow festival.

The Scot responded by changing his name on Twitter to Chewis Capaldi and his profile picture to a photo of his own face photoshopped onto the famous Star Wars character - before making that hilarious entrance on stage at TRNSMT.

And the prop Capaldi wore was subsequently auctioned off for charity Tiny Changes, which was set up in memory of Frightened Rabbit singer Scott Hutchison who took his own life last year following struggles with anxiety and depression.

A worker at the festival got the mask signed and put it on internet auction site eBay in a bid to raise money for the charity, which attempts to raise awareness about children and young people’s mental health issues.

The eBay item listing said: "I work for DF concerts and events and donated my mask to Lewis Capaldi for his performance.

"He signed it as well shortly after coming off stage.

"So I thought the best thing to do with it would be sell it on eBay with the profits going to the charity Tiny Changes which was set up in memory of Scott Hutchison."

The mask eventually fetched £7,401 for the charity.
