'That is unreal' - Man United fans react as Marcus Rashford confirms he meant skill vs Newcastle

Marcus Rashford has confirmed he intended to do a sensational mid-air heel flick in the build-up to his Carabao Cup final goal against Newcastle on Sunday.

The attacker’s strike was initially ruled as a Sven Botman own goal due to his deflection but the effort was later confirmed as Rashford’s, meaning he now has 25 for the season and his first in a major final.

The day after the game, fans noticed an unbelievable piece of trickery from the No.10 in the build-up to the goal, a showpiece so good it had United fans questioning whether he really meant it.

As the ball lopped towards him, the 25-year-old performed a mid-air heel flick to send Wout Weghorst on the attack, who slid through the on-rushing Rashford to scoop the ball home.

Clips of the moment went viral on social media in the aftermath, which prompted the player himself to clarify the skill. Retweeting the video, he outlined: “It was a heel-to-heel flick but in the air.”

A member of MUTV commented below the original video suggesting the skill was intentional, saying: “I honestly think he meant every bit of it.” Rashford himself replied to it, saying: “Yep,” with a fist pump emoji.

It prompted United fans on the platform to dish out praise for his quick thinking and ability to pull it off in an intense game with a trophy on the line.

@Diipolarinde: Insane technique... Rashford youuu beauty.

@itdedona: These are the world class things that people miss. What a player.

@utdvikk: The build to this goal is so cold.

@DennisHonorebel: That is incredible. I didn't notice it probably due to the euphoria. Nice.

@si1927: Gotta be supremely confident & skilful to pull that out at Wembley but it also did something not just for show. Rashford is on flames at the moment, fair play, like a completely different player to last season, wild.

@ChampgneDante: Nah but this is just filthy.

@TheDevilsDNA: Okay, this is unreal. Magic.
