But he surpassed what most thought he was capable of with a startlingly brilliant assist to send Josh Adams over for his team's second try in their European Challenge Cup match with London Irish. You can follow live updates of the game here.
In an entertaining first half, the Cardiff Blues took control with with a try from Kristian Dacey and then Adams' effort set up by Davies.
After Irish spilled it in the Blues' half, the visitors broke out with Davies, who played centre as a youngster, galloping up the middle of the field as desperate defenders tracked back.
As he crossed the halfway line, he spotted Adams haring up the far touchline and put in a beautifully weighted cross field kick right into the winger's path.
It took a bit of finishing from Adams as the ball was bouncing awkwardly but it was a sublime assist from the big second row.
The try provoked a huge reaction on social media, with onlookers raving at Davies' piece of skill...
Cardiff Blues took a 17-13 win in at half time.
