'That is an absolute belter' - Has this passerby captured the worst ever parking in Leith?

Okay, so everyone knows parking in Edinburgh can be an absolute nightmare. While there are a few rare spots that you can park for free, a permanent space in the city centre could set you back up £65,000.

But there is really no excuse for some parking blunders, which often leave pedestrians scrambling to find away around vehicles blocking the pavement - and this latest photo comes under that category.

A passerby snapped a photo of the white van, which was parked on Leith Walk, between Annandale Street and McDonald Road.

Taking to social media, Andrew Burnie said: "Think I've found @leithsworstpark. Do I get a prize? Leith Walk between Anandale and McDonald Roads. @EdinburghPolice @edinhelp."

"Leith's Worst Parking" is an Edinburgh Twitter account set up in 2017 to document the capital's worst drivers and features everything from people parking across two bays to delivery vans stopping in the middle of the road.

They agreed that this manoeuvre is "in the running" for the worst parking of all time.

Other people reacted to the post with either complete horror or the attitude that if you don't laugh, you'll cry.

One said simply said "Jesus wept", while another person commented: "That is an absolute belter. Must have been quite the manoeuvre to reverse in there."

Another passerby said that he later "overheard" the van driver "telling someone who had the audacity to ask them to move, that they had a job to do, so wouldn't."

But this kind of horror parking will soon face new legislation after the Scottish Parliament passed a bill last week that outlawed pavement parking across the country, which will come into play  in 2021.
