'That is a terrible Monday': A street sweeper damaged a hydrant sending a 50ft fountain of water shooting into air

If you think you're having a bad start to the week, spare a thought for this fella in Rochdale.

This morning, a road sweeper damaged a water hydrant while filling up his truck - and caused a huge fountain of water about 50ft high.

Video shows the the spray shooting above the rooftops of houses on Ings Lane in Spotland as a voice can be heard quipping 'That is a terrible Monday'.

Dozens of homes lost water or had suffered low pressure following the incident.

A United Utilities spokesperson said engineers were sent to the scene and repaired the burst as quickly as possible.

The spokesperson added: "We understand that a council gulley cleaner damaged the hydrant while it was filling up.

"We have now repaired it and water pressure in the area is getting back to normal."

An incident log on the UU website says: "Good news, all supplies are now restored to the area your taps should be flowing again.

"However, further work is required to complete the repair to the broken pipe.

"You may also experience some discolouration of your water, this is due to the disturbance in the area and will clear in a short time."
