'That could be the last straw' - Arsenal legend offers verdict on Mesut Ozil's future

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has stated that missing the 1-1 draw with Manchester United could be the last straw for Mesut Ozil in North London.

The German World Cup winner was not selected as part of the squad for the match at Old Trafford and Unai Emery made it clear before the match the decision was tactical.

30-year-old Ozil has featured just once in the Premier League so far this season, with Emery regularly overlooking the former Real Madrid man in favour of other options at his disposal.

As such, Ozil's future at Arsenal has been drawn into speculation once again, following a summer when he was consistently linked with an exit from the Emirates Stadium.

While Parlour admits he doesn't know the full circumstances behind the scenes with Ozil, he is concerned that missing the recent clash with Manchester United could leave the writing on the wall.

“We don’t know what happens behind the scenes; we don’t know the atmosphere at training and we don’t know his attitude at training," he told TalkSport.

Manchester United 1-1 Arsenal: Unai Emery press conference

“Maybe Emery is looking at it wanting a reaction and he’s not getting a reaction, so he’s saying, ‘I’m going to go with the youngsters instead’.

“He’s been brave by doing it because Ozil is a World Cup winner and he’s on a massive contract at Arsenal.

“But he did probably need someone like Ozil last night to open the door for Aubameyang; he didn’t get a lot of service did he?

“But Ozil… I don’t know what the future holds for him. I think that could be the last straw.”
