Perrie Edwards has opened up about her frustrations with both her ex-fiancé Zayn Malik and former Little Mix bandmate Jesy Nelson in what fans have described as her most candid interview to date.
Appearing on the podcast Great Company With Jamie Laing, Perrie first addressed her split from the One Direction star in 2015 and suggested there was “overlap” with his relationship with Gigi Hadid.
You see, Perrie and Zayn met on The X Factor UK in 2011 (the same year Little Mix made history as the first group to win the competition) and became engaged two years later. They then announced their split in August 2015, and Zayn released his debut solo single “Pillowtalk” in January 2016 — which was written about Perrie, but starred his then-girlfriend Gigi Hadid in the music video.
Perrie Edwards alleges ‘overlap’ in Zayn Malik relationship
During her tell-all interview, Perrie described their breakup as “hellish” and said she felt like “the world was looking at [her] and laughing at [her]” because Zayn had another girlfriend so soon after they ended things.
“When you’re moving on with somebody else, you always get on better. When you’re the one left behind, that’s when it’s hard. Because it’s like, ‘Oh s**t, they’ve left me for someone more beautiful. They’ve met someone better than me’,” she said.
She went on to allege that there was a crossover between their relationship and his romance with Gigi, who he dated on-and-off for six years and welcomed a daughter with in 2020 before breaking up for good in 2021.
“Let’s just say there was a bit of a — I’m just gonna say it ‚ there was a bit of an overlap,” Perrie said about Zayn and Gigi.
“Then you have a song that they’ve written about you, but then someone else is in the video. It was one thing after the other after the other. I remember finding out about that … it was just the nail in the coffin.”
As for her current relationship, Perrie has been engaged to English footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain since 2022 and welcomed their second child together, a baby girl, earlier this year.
Perrie says she doesn’t want to rekindle her friendship with Jesy Nelson
Perrie also gave a shoutout to her ex-bandmate Jesy Nelson in the interview and admitted she has no plans of patching things up after their fallout.
Jesy, who left Little Mix in 2020, claimed in her recent docuseries Life After Little Mix that she felt ignored and misunderstood by the other three members of the group, and they didn’t support her through her mental health struggles. The docuseries also explored Jesy’s parenthood journey after becoming a mum to twin girls with spinal muscular atrophy in 2025, and she announced that she would be stepping away from the music industry to focus on her mental health and family.
Perrie told Jamie Laing that she had hoped to rekindle her friendship with Jesy before the release of the docuseries in February, but she’s since changed her mind.
“Part of me wanted to until the documentary, and then part of me withdrew again,” she said. “I haven’t got a bad bone in my body, but I can cut you off. I can forgive, but I don’t want you in my space.”
Perrie, who released a song on her debut album about their estrangement called “Same Place Different View”, also called out Jesy for not taking “any accountability”.
“That boils my blood,” she added. “I’m not blaming everything on you. I’m not saying she’s this f**king monster and everything was her fault, but take some accountability for your actions and realise you were difficult. You did have difficult moments.”
She continued: “You can only pick somebody up so many f**king times before you lose track of your own sanity. I thought I’d tried anything. So to then sit there in further interviews and discuss it publicly and be like, ‘I wasn’t supported’. You were, though.”

Perrie, Jade Thirwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock continued Little Mix as a trio following Jesy’s exit, releasing their greatest hits album Between Us in 2021 and embarking on the Confetti Tour in 2022.
The group officially entered their hiatus once the tour wrapped and are each enjoying successful solo careers, with Jade making history as the first former girl band member to win a solo Brit Award last year.
