'Thanks to you, we have hit them where it hurts': Police praise the public after tip-offs lead them to £100,000 cannabis farm

Police have praised the public after several tip-offs helped officers uncover a £100,000 cannabis farm.

Officers in Whitworth, near Rochdale, discovered more than 500 'substantial' cannabis plants growing inside a house on Hall Street during an early morning raid on Monday.

Every room in the house, including the loft and cellar, had undergone a 'complete conversion' and had been equipped with 'expensive electrical systems, heaters, lighting to ensure optimum growth'.

The raid came after members of the public came forward with 'several good pieces of information', police said.

A post on the Rossendale Police Facebook page said: "All plants have been seized and destroyed, along with £1000's worth of hydroponic growing equipment.

"The electrical supply to the premises, which had been bypassed, is now retified and safe for neighbouring residents.

"With each plant giving an estimated yield of £200-£400 , this is a significant disruption to organised crime who use premises like this to fund their activities.

"This operation has cost organised crime easily in excess of £100,000, thanks to you, we have hit them where it hurts.

"Enquiries are ongoing to identify the operators of this premises.

"Please continue to use crimestoppers, this can be completely anonymous.

"Once again thank you for your help."
