Messages of thanks to key workers are being painted on roads across Bury.
The markings intend to pay tribute to those working in health and social care, public transport, the emergency services and other workers who are keeping the borough going through the Covid-19 pandemic.
Council workers are printing the rainbow logos and ‘thank you’ messages at ten locations across the borough, near to where those important staff work.
Work has now started and should be completed on Friday.
The locations are:
- Manchester Road, Whitefield – near the junction of Cross Street (near Whitefield Fire Station and Morrisons)
- Bolton Road, Bury – at the junction with Ainsworth Road (near Cameron House care home and the Royal Mail sorting office)
- Rochdale Old Road, Bury - outside Fairfield Hospital
- Stubbins Lane, Ramsbottom – outside the fire station
- Peel Way, Bury – near the police station
- Brandlesholme Road, Bury – near Killelea House care home and Woodbank surgery
- Bury Old Road, Whitefield – at Mayfair Avenue (near North West Ambulance service)
- Walmersley Road, Bury – junction with Birch Street (near Bury Ambulance Station)
- Bradley Fold Road, Radcliffe – outside Bradley Fold Industrial Estate (where council services such as waste collection are based)
- Pilkington Way, Radcliffe – at the junction of Dale Street (near to supermarkets, the bus interchange and the Royal Mail).
Councillor Sharon Briggs, Bury Council's cabinet member for communities, said: “At times of crisis, we rely more than ever on our health services and public sector workers.
“These people are true heroes, putting themselves at risk by being on the frontline in the battle to overcome this virus and keep us all safe.
“These road markings are just one way we can say ‘thank you’ to them in a very public way, and every resident of Bury will share these sentiments.”
