'Thank god' - Chelsea fans laugh as Antonio Conte drops out of managerial race

With rumours surrounding Harry Kane's future and the club still without a manager, Tottenham fans could be set for an agonisingly long summer.

Spurs have been without a permanent boss since Jose Mourinho's sacking in March, with Ryan Mason taking charge of the club's last seven games of the season on an interim basis.

It then looked like things were starting to materialise in Spurs' managerial search as former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte was in talks with the club over the last few days.

However, talks broke down on Friday with the Italian coach having ‘major doubts’ over accepting the job according to Sky in Italy.

Spurs will now have to move onto alternatives and losing out on the Premier League winner will be a huge blow to Daniel Levy and the club.

The news was met by a chorus of laughter by Chelsea fans, who admitted they were worried about the prospect of serial-winner Conte taking charge at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

They took to social media on Friday night to express their relief.

yoericfc said: "I cannot express how much I didn’t want this to happen. For Mourinho it seemed somewhat logical because they wanted him since 2007, but Conte came out of nowhere."

Pax_Soprana said: "Thank god, I would have absolutely hated if he went to Spurs. I guess they can always try for Sarri now if they really want to keep going for Chelsea's seconds!! (I know he's going to Lazio)"

Spurs will continue to search for a new manager despite the setback with the likes of Brighton's Graham Potter and Fulham's Scott Parker reportedly two frontrunners for the job.

Comparatively, Chelsea are over the moon with the impact of their manager Thomas Tuchel, who was handed a contract extension on Friday following the Blues' Champions League victory.

The German, who will now remain at the club until 2024, was ecstatic with the new deal.

"I cannot imagine a better occasion for a contract renewal. I am grateful for the experience and very happy to stay part of the Chelsea family," Tuchel told the club's website.

"There is far more to come and we are looking forward to our next steps with ambition and much anticipation."
