KALYAN: A quarrel over spitting inside a local train sent a passenger to hospital in Maharashtra on Tuesday.

The accused passenger Harikesh Rai (33) thrashed the victim, Avinash Divare (18), who stopped him from spitting inside the train and when the train reached Ambivali station, Rai pushed Divare on the platform and assaulted again.

Hailing from Ambivli area in Thane district, Divare was undergoing treatment at a private hospital. The accused is a resident of Titwala area.

Kalyan GRP official said that on Tuesday evening, both the passengers were travelling from Shahad to Asangaon.

The GRP official said both of them were travelling in the luggage compartment and were standing near door. During the journey, Rai was continuously spitting inside the train and when Divare tried to stop him from doing so the former got angry and started assaulting Divare.

The complainant in his complaint alleged that after assaulting him inside the train, Rai pushed him on the platform when the train reached Ambivli railway station and hit him on his legs using the stones lying nearby.

Following the incident, Kalyan GRP registered an FIR against Rai and arrested him under assault charges.

The official on Wednesday said that the accused was produced before Kalyan railway court which granted him bail.
