Thane: Promising investors high returns, 6 booked in cryptocurrency scam

THANE: The Thane city police have registered two offences against an investment company for cheating several investors by promising the handsome returns on their investments. Police suspect that this could be a multicrore fraud and six accused have been booked for the offence.

A police officer said that the firm duped investors under the pretext of promising them high returns in dollars on their investments. The accused neither returned the principal amount nor did the victims get any returns which is when they filed a complaint against the accused running the firm.

A police officer informed, “The victims were told that their money was going to be invested in crypto currency and they will get good returns. The investors were wooed and some invested thousands and lakhs of rupees. The accused told them that their money that will be invested in a crypto company will give them 0.5-1%profit everyday and that their initial investment amount would triple in 10-20 months.”

A police officer privy to the probe informed that the this could only be the tip of iceberg and the scam could be spread across different parts of the state. The police said that they were probing into the complaint registered with them on Wednesday and no arrest has been made made so far.
