Thane: Police nab notorious chain snatcher in Kalyan

KALYAN: The Mahatma Phule police arrested a notorious chain snatcher for stealing gold chain of a woman in the city recently.

The accused identified as Mehandihasan alias Innu Sayyed/ Irani/Hussain, a resident of Kausa area in Mumbra, already has 8 cases, mostly of chain snatching, registered against him in Thane and Navi Mumbai area, said police.

On the morning on April 3, the 32-year-old allegedly snatched gold chain of a 66-year-old woman near Lourdes church in Rambaug area in Kalyan.

According to police, the accused along with his associate, who is still on the run, snatched her chain and escaped on their scooter.

The entire incident was recorded on CCTV camera. Following which, an offence of robbery was registered at the Mahatma Phule police station.

Umesh Mane Patil, assistant commissioner of police, Kalyan zone of Thane police said, “With the help of CCTV footage, our team apprehended the accused recently and during the probe we found his role in six more offences committed under different police stations jurisdiction in Thane and Navi Mumbai”.

Ashok Honmane, senior police inspector of Mahatma Phule PS said, “The accused is notorious because he was earlier involved in eight other offences mostly of chain snatching”.
