THANE: Two women from Mumbai were recently arrested by the Thane police for allegedly running a sex racket and luring ladies in need of monetary assistance and later pushing them into prostitution, officials informed.
Mahesh Patil, police inspector at the Anti-human trafficking cell at the Thane police said they were tipped off about the two women who used to trap unsuspecting women under financial distress by luring them with the prospect of easy money and later push them into prostitution. The women used to solicit customers at busy locations in the city to avoid suspicion and once the deal was struck, the customers used to take the women to nearby lodges, said the police.
“After we were informed about the illegal activity, we sent a decoy customer to meet the two accused women and they agreed to come to the Kapurbawdi area along with the four victims to strike a deal. We arrested the women and later rescued the victims who told us they were local residents and were pushed into the trade by the duo. Accordingly, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act,” informed Patil.
