Thane: 10-year-old boy falls in open tank, dies

THANE: A 10-year-old boy died after he accidentally fell into a 35-feet deep open tank in the Manpada area of Maharashtra's Thane on Tuesday evening, officials informed following initial investigations.

Dr Vinay Rathod, deputy police commissioner of Thane Police, said the incident occurred around 6pm when the minor was playing with his friends at a deserted construction site near his residence in the Nalpada area along the Ghodbunder road when he accidentally slipped into the tank. Initial investigations revealed the boys used to play in the area frequently and were aware of the water-filled tank.

Passersby raised an alarm, following which civic officials reached the spot and started rescue operation.

“A civic diver entered the waters and managed to bring out the boy who had lost consciousness. He was admitted to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The body has been sent for post mortem,” informed Santosh Kadam, chief of the regional disaster management cell.

The Chitalsar-Manpada police were in the process of registering a case and would investigate the matter, said a senior official.
