Buri Ram: A would-be election candidate for the Future Forward Party (FFP) in Na Pho district of this northeastern province has lodged a complaint with police seeking an investigation into the defacement of two of his election campaign posters.
Phattharaphong Suphakson, 36, a potential party candidate, said on Monday he lodged the complaint after discovering the face of party leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit's were slashed on both posters.
Given the manner of the damage inflicted, he wasn't convinced by what the owner of the location where the two posters were put up told investigators, said Mr Phattharaphong.
The owner told police and Mr Phattharaphong his young son unintentionally damaged the posters while he was jumping around playfully, but also said that the posters already bore some holes, the FFP politician said.
However, Mr Phattharaphong suspected that the owner was too afraid of someone to tell the truth because when he was asked to show police footage from a security camera that had likely captured the incident, he refused to.
Mr Phattharaphong suggested the damage was the work of an influential figure in a constituency in which the race is already fierce.
"Although the incident scared my team and myself a great deal, we won't give up on our intention to introduce a new style of politics to society," he said.
According to him, he has won overwhelming support from voters after canvassing in the area.
