The meeting was carried out at the private residence of Mr Prabowo on Wednesday, according the Indonesian presidential palace.

"The meeting took place in a warm and familiar atmosphere, while serving as a momentum to strengthen the long-estalished friendship between the two figures," it added, citing a statement from cabinet secretary Teddy Wijaya.

Mr Thaksin is a member of the Danantara Advisory Council, which helps shepard the Danantara state investment management agency.

Previously incarcerated, Mr Thaksin was granted a royal pardon in celebration of Her Majesty the Queen's 4th cycle birthday anniversary last month.
