Thais get a close look at Women's World Cup

The Fifa Women's World Cup Trophy Tour 2019 arrived in Bangkok on Friday amid growing excitement ahead of the showpiece event in France from June 7-July 7.

Fans had a chance to get up close to the coveted prize, that will be lifted at Parc Olympique Lyonnais in Lyon on July 7, at Infinicity Hall IMAX Paragon.

The Thai women's team qualified for the World Cup for the second successive time. They are one of the 24 teams in the month-long championship.

They are in Group F along with three-time champions United States, European champions Sweden and Chile.

Team manager Nuanphan Lamsam said having the chance to see the trophy up close was a moment to cherish. "I feel proud that we got a chance to see the trophy here in Thailand. It's the second time we had the chance to get our hands on the trophy.

"We know we will have a tough tournament in June. All the matches will be tough. But the players are determined to do their best. We will try to win points. We always believe that anything can happen in football.

"Many players in the team will probably retire after the World Cup so they will want to do their best in France. The last time [in Canada] we finished 17th so this time we hope to make it to the last 16 but it will be difficult."

The trophy tour started its extensive journey from Paris on Feb 24, travelling across 24 countries and will end on May 2.
