Kuala Lumpur: Thailand won the first gold medal of the 29th SEA Games after a victory in the chinlone event 1 yesterday.
The Thai team, who were defending champions, won the title after defeating hosts Malaysia 363-300 in the gold medal match.
Myanmar did not send their team to this event.
Thailand had missed out on their first gold medal attempt on Wednesday after they lost to Myanmar in the final of chinlone event 2.
Myanmar were just too strong in their own sport, which is similar to sepak takraw, and beat the Thais 317-303 in the gold decider.
Meanwhile, Malaysia's archers took the men's compound team gold after beating Singapore 228-222 in the final at the NSC Synthetic Turf in Bukit Jalil yesterday.
Singapore's Debbie Soh Li Fei was in her elements to give the republic its first gold in the biennial tournament.
She came out tops in the solo free routine (synchronised swimming) event at the National Aquatic yesterday.
The 19-year old scored 22.3000 for execution, 30.000 for artistic impression and 22.7000 for difficulty for a total of 75.0000.
Malaysia missed out on the gold with Lee Yhing Huay finishing with a total of 74.7000 to take the silver, followed by Singapore's Miya Yong who bagged the bronze medal with 73.0333.
