Thailand U19 team missed out on a chance to qualify for the Fifa U20 World Cup after their 7-3 extra-time loss to Qatar in the quarter-finals of the AFC U19 Championship in Indonesia on Saturday.
Only the last four teams in the championship earn spots at next year's tournament in Poland.
Thailand, who made it to the last eight as Group B runners-up, found themselves two goals down inside the first 20 minutes after Hashim Ali and Nasser Al Yazidi put Group A winners Qatar into a comfortable lead.
Thailand looked on course for an amazing comeback after second-half goals from Korawich Tasa, Sakunchai Saengthopho and Thirapak Prueangna put them in the lead with 10 minutes remaining.
A goal from Ahmed Suhail in the 87th minute then sent the game into extra time.
Abdulrasheed Umaru, who scored twice, Khaled Mansour and Youssef Ayman then broke Thailand's hearts as their vulnerable defence were completely exposed during the extra period.
"First off, I would like to congratulate Qatar," said coach Issara Sritharo.
"We managed to fight back after being two goals down. Unfortunately, we couldn't maintain our advantage and the boys seemed to run out of gas towards the end.
"The players gave their all but unfortunately it wasn't enough for us to qualify for the World Cup.
"We need to keep improving and hopefully we will be able to do that in the future," he added.
The team are due to return home on Monday.
