Thailand is moving to confiscate another 115 million baht in assets linked to the Chinese-Cambodian tycoon Chen Zhi, who is now awaiting trial in China for financial crimes.
The Anti-Money Laundering Office (Amlo) said on Thursday that its transaction committee had resolved to seize 431 additional assets including cash, gold ornaments, land plots with buildings, and digital assets.
Earlier Amlo had seized 345 million baht worth of other assets linked to Mr Chen and the forfeiture is being considered by the Civil Court. The total assets seized from the Chinese-born tycoon in Thailand now amount to 460 million baht.
Mr Chen, 38, is the founder of the Cambodian conglomerate Prince Group. It operated a wide range of businesses including financial services and real estate in more than 30 countries.
However, authorities in China and elsewhere say the group was linked to a sprawling online scam network.
The United States sanctioned the conglomerate and wants Chen for allegedly being behind transnational crime organisations.
Accused of masterminding scam networks, committing fraud and concealing criminal proceeds, he was extradited from Cambodia to China in January.
Many governments have confiscated assets from Mr Chen, including HK$9 billion in assets and properties seized in Hong Kong a few months ago.
Chinese prosecutors in late July added intentional injury to the long list of charges Mr Chen is facing. It is not known when he will stand trial.
Under Chinese criminal law, intentionally inflicting bodily injury and causing death or severe injury by especially cruel means is punishable by at least 10 years in prison and could lead to execution.
