Thailand's Ancient City needs to be on your radar if you're planning a holiday

Thailand holidays offer up heaps of adventures to be had, but for intrepid explorers a trip to the Ancient City, also known as Muang Boran, is a must.

Don't expect to find ancient ruins here though - instead, you'll find bright and colourful palaces, ornate temples and some picture-perfect lakes.

That's because the Ancient City is really a museum park created by Lek Viriyaphant which offers visitors a glimpse into the rich history and culture found across the country.

In fact, there are over 100 structures replicating some of Thailand's famous monuments and architectural feats, with the park corresponding roughly to the shape of the kingdom so that each structure is in the correct place.

Highlights include the Sumeru Mountain Palace, guarded by a giant Anand fish, while the Sanphet Prasat Palace has long wowed visitors with its breathtaking architecture.

Meanwhile, the Golden Bridge and the Pavilion of the Enlightened make for a picture-perfect spot, not to mention a beautiful stroll, while the lakes are filled with attractions including intricate statues in the shapes of dragons.

Ancient Siam is hailed as the world's largest outdoor museum, with 200 acres to explore.

In fact, most tourists opt to travel around it in golf carts or by bicycle to see as much as possible, and if you are going to visit you will want to leave a few hours free on the itinerary to give yourself plenty of time to visit it all.

If you are planning a trip to Thailand, make sure not to miss out on some of the best things to see and do - but do leave some time on the itinerary to unwind on Thailand's incredible beaches too.

Oh, and if you are travelling to Thailand make sure you have travel insurance as this could become compulsory later this year .
