The Alcoholic Beverage Control Committee has extended permitted alcohol sales to between 11am and midnight, the Royal Gazette announced on Thursday.
The change, signed by Public Health Minister Pattana Promphat on May 27, takes effect immediately and repeals the committee’s sales‑hour prohibition announced on Dec 1, 2025.
The revision follows a recent 180‑day trial that eased a decades‑old afternoon ban and is part of efforts to modernise alcohol rules to support tourism and retail.
Authorities have paired longer hours with tighter controls in sensitive public areas amid concerns over drink‑driving and underage access.
Exemptions allow sales outside 11am–midnight in international airport passenger terminals, hotels, service establishments operating under the Service Establishments Act and designated event or service zones (including specified areas in Rayong’s Eastern Aviation City Promotion Zone).
Sellers operating under these exceptions must implement screening and safety measures to maintain public order and prevent youth access.
The announcement, issued by Public Health Minister Pattana, who serves as chairman of the Alcohol Control Committee, stated:
- Article 1: This announcement takes effect the day after publication in the Royal Gazette .
- Article 2: The committee’s announcement on prohibited sales hours last year is revoked.
- Article 3: No person may sell alcoholic beverages except between 11am and 12am, except in the cases listed above.
- Article 4: Sellers during exempted hours must implement screening and safety measures to maintain social order, public safety and restrict minors’ access.
