Thousands of demonstrators are calling for prime minister, Yingluck Shinawatra to step down amid claims that her government is controlled by her older brother, ousted former leader Thaksin Shinawatra. Monday's rally came the day after about 100,000 people marched in Bangkok, staging the largest rally Thailand has seen in years.

Protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban, former deputy prime minister and opposition lawmaker, encouraged demonstrators into the finance ministry in a bid to urge the agency to stop financing government projects. The event was one of several protests in 13 locations across Bangkok.

More than two dozen Bangkok schools have closed and police tightened security around military and police headquarters and the television stations controlled by the military or the government.
