Thailand and China yesterday signed five memorandums of understanding for the Eastern Economic Corridor scheme.

The signing ceremony was chaired by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak at Government House.

Mr Somkid said the government is confident that Thailand and China can enjoy significant strategic cooperation in Southeast Asia and expects the value of trade and investment between the two nations to exceed US$140 billion by 2021.

"We welcome Chinese investors and are confident that Thailand can be the gateway to other Southeast Asian markets where China can expand its investment in the region," he said.

Industry Minister Uttama Savanayana said he expects the full 17 memorandums of understanding with China will result in the development of local manpower for the 11 targeted industries and enable the implementation technology and innovation to serve the Thailand 4.0 vision.
