Thailand and Australia have signed the Asean-Australia Counter-Trafficking (Asean-Act) agreement to improve the criminal justice response to human trafficking in Asean nations.
Australian Ambassador to Thailand Paul Robilliard and Thailand International Cooperation Agency director-general Suphatra Srimaitreephithak signed the agreement on Wednesday.
Asean-Act is a 10-year programme, implemented in Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines and Vietnam.
The programme aims to increase the investigative capacity of law enforcement and assist with the prosecution and trials of cases related to human trafficking.
Thailand is the first Asean country to sign such an agreement with Australia.
