How good are you with numbers, dear readers? Let's put you to the test in this mathematics quiz which -- and I can't state the following sentence strongly enough -- has not been inspired by any real-life incidents. (Cough cough cough, sorry almost choked there!) They are completely fictional, purely for your entertainment. The answers are at the end. No cheating!
1. You dad passed away, leaving behind 4 billion baht. This has caused your mother and your dad's other wife to fight over it. You also learned that he opened a restaurant in Paris after he retired. But, perhaps, what's more extraordinary than the massive wealth he amassed, is the fact that he was known to be a salaried man throughout his adult life. Neither an entrepreneur running his own public company nor the inventor of Facebook.
Let's be super generous and say he spent 30 years working non-stop in the same career and was promoted regularly. How much did he have to earn on an average, per month, to be able to leave behind that humongous amount of coins?
2. Your friend owns a beautiful collection of 25 limited-edition brand name watches. They are valued at nearly 40 million baht, in total. Just one of them equals what you earn in a year or two, or the price of your studio condo, you peasant.
He's in his 70s and is still miraculously employed, so that means, based on a very generous estimation, he has about 50 years to earn a lot of money to acquire all of those timepieces. As they say, time stops for no one. How much do you think he has to earn on an average per month to buy them all?
3. You're in a race to become a leader of an organisation. You're its current leader but your time will soon end. There are 250 people who have been selected pre-race while you're in the office and they are given the power to choose the leader.
You need half of 750 votes, or at least 376 votes, to be eligible to become the leader again. How many more votes do you need?
ANSWERS:
1. So that's 4,000,000,000 baht divided by 360 months (12 X 30). It comes to 11,111,111.11 per month. Nice numbers, right? Anyone can do that. You'll just have to have a lot of discipline.
2. There's no way to afford 40 million baht in watches as a salaried person. All you need is a BFF who's uber rich to lend them to you.
3. That's easy. At least 126 votes more, dummy. That won't be too difficult, will it? Given you're already more than half way there.
P.S. I'll accept BS as the answer for all the questions above, too.
