Thai school pays tribute to Reamonn Gormley on tenth anniversary of his murder

A Thai-based school for children with Down’s syndrome have paid tribute to Blantyre teenager Reamonn Gormley on the tenth anniversary of his murder.

The Good Child Foundation, with the pupils affectionately known as the Thai Tims because of their love for Celtic Football Club, remembered former St John Ogilvie High pupil Reamonn on their social media sites on Tuesday, February 1.

The date marks ten years since the 19-year-old was stabbed to death in an attempted street robbery while walking home from the Parkville Hotel, on February 1, 2011.

In a poignant tribute on the Thai Tims’ Facebook page, they posted: “Today, February 1st, is the 10th anniversary of the tragic death of Reamonn Gormley. ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.”

The Good Child Foundation School, set up by Paul Lennon and his wife Pun, is based in the Chanthaburi province of Thailand.

During a gap year from university in 2010, Celtic-mad Reamonn had gone to volunteer with the foundation and won the hearts of everyone there through his work and dedication.

The pupils and staff there have often remembered Reamonn over the years and indeed even have a purpose-built art room in memory of the Blantyre teen.

They also have been able to build an IT suite, spectators’ stand and outdoor classroom space all of which was provided thanks to yearly donations from Blantyre Soccer Academy who formed a partnership with the school after Reamonn’s death in 2011 to keep up the strong link between the teenager and the school.

A short while after Reamonn’s death the children of the Good Child Foundation came to visit Blantyre to pay their respects to Reamonn and his family.
