A Thai oil painter and a Russian photo artist have joined hands to interpret their ideas of the happiness and bliss during the "Ecstasy Of Truth", which is running at Sathorn 11 art space until Nov 17.
Held as part of the Bangkok Art Biennale 2018 under the theme "Beyond Bliss", the exhibition features six oil-on-canvas paintings by Kannika Jansuwan who presents the variety of sensations, emotions and the animal aspect/spirit of her portrait.
For her, all emotions can be seen as one, expressed from a human/animal totemic character that reminds us of one of the universal rules that "everything is one same thing" but only an observer can see. This is in accordance with Buddha's words that "no one can teach us to see, we are the ones who have the obligation to see by ourselves".
Also displayed are artworks from Olga Volodina's "Metamorphosis" project as well as new images from her "Imaginarium" series. The latter reflects her view on human nature; the hypocrisy and double standards of modern society; hyper-connectivity; obsession with smartphones and social media addiction; religion, politics and environmental issues; and controversial historical facts.
Executed in a surreal and, sometimes, grotesque manner, these images open a door to the world of Olga's dreams and fantasies, where history, literature and current events are all mixed up and transformed into something symbolic and metaphorical.
Sathorn 11 art space is on Sathon 11 and opens Tuesday to Sunday from 5pm to 1am.
