Thai Raksa Chart reject cries collusion

Kamphaeng Phet: A prospective candidate for Thai Raksa Chart yesterday lodged a petition against his own party after it decided not to field him in the general election in the province's Constituency 1.

Pathompop Prakarnchainakorn turned up at the auditorium of the provincial administrative organisation, the venue for candidacy registration, along with some 20 supporters to submit his petition seeking a probe against the party.

The group arrived in a pickup truck with many election posters and banners.

Some of them were covered with the messages "Collude or Not!" and "Lies!".

Mr Pathompop accused the Thai Raksa Chart Party of colluding with the Pheu Thai Party after it decided to opt out of the race in Constituency 1.

He said the party claimed its popularity could not match Pheu Thai's in the constituency based on an internal survey, so it decided to withdraw.

According to Mr Pathompop, the party had agreed to field him and gave him the green light to campaign.

He said he had opened a party branch, recruited members and prepared election campaign material.

He also announced he was leaving the Thai Raksa Chart Party and tendered his resignation letter via the provincial election office.

After leaving, Mr Pathompop and his supporters visited a water park where they set the campaign posters and other election material on fire.

Thanaboon Sinthana, director of the provincial election office, said yesterday the petition would be forwarded to the Election Commission and the resignation letter handed to the Thai Raksa Chart Party.
