Chok Maa, a new artist residency and exhibition space in Bangkok, presents "Difference And Repetition: Contemporary Thai Printmaking", an exhibition celebrating the breadth, craftsmanship and innovation of contemporary printmaking in Thailand, from Saturday to Sept 26.
Held in collaboration with Hello, Print Friend Studios, the exhibition explores printmaking not as a medium of reproduction but as one of transformation. It brings together artists working across lithography, woodcut, etching, screen-printing and other processes and collaborative print studios from across Thailand.
While the participating artists represent a wide range of aesthetic approaches and techniques, they are united by a medium whose creative power lies not simply in producing multiples, but in the transformative act of repetition itself.
The exhibition highlights both independent studio practices and the collaborative relationships between artists and master printers that have become a defining characteristic of contemporary printmaking in Thailand.
Together, the works demonstrate how repetition generates difference, revealing printmaking as a medium grounded in material intelligence, experimentation and dialogue.
Although fine art printmaking was introduced to Thailand relatively recently in the mid-20th century, local printmakers have earned an international reputation for technical excellence and innovation, regularly receiving top honours at print biennials and international exhibitions.
This show celebrates this remarkable community of artists and printers while inviting viewers to reconsider the printed image -- not as a copy but as a living record of repetition, variation, collaboration and creative possibility.
The opening reception is on Saturday from 4pm to 9pm. Chok Maa is on Charoen Nakhon 13 and opens Friday and Saturday from 11am and 7pm (or by appointment only).
