Sporty sedan is first high-performance hybrid to be assembled in Thailand costing 5.35 million baht.

Mercedes-Benz Thailand has launched its first locally assembled AMG-badged model powered by a high-performance hybrid powertrain.
The Mercedes-AMG CLS53 4Matic+, first introduced in completely built-up form at last year’s Motor Expo, features the brand’s latest 3.0-litre inline-six petrol-turbo engine and 48V mild hybrid.
As the electric system can act as both energy recuperation and power boost, the combined output is rated at some 435hp in the sporty sedan. Transmission is via nine-speed automatic driving all four wheels.
The price of the Thai-finished CLS53 has been set at 5.35 million baht, 1.74 million baht cheaper than its imported counterpart.
The Thai Mercedes office has also introduced the E53 Coupe equipped with the same powertrain as in the CLS53. However, the E53’s imported status means that it’s priced higher at 6.99 million baht.
There is no direct rival for the CLS53 in Thailand, although the Volvo S90 T8 has a plug-in hybrid with 408hp of combined power.
A new variant of the S90 T8 has been announced by Volvo Car Thailand this week in the guise of Inscription trim featuring air suspension, all-round view monitor, cooled front seats and high-end audio system. It goes for 3.79 million baht.
